Can dogs hear satellite dishes?

I'm away from my house on holidays, and my mom called me and told me that our neighbours had put a satellite dish up on the fence beside my house. My dog is very afraid to go near it. If you would like to know, he is afraid of a lot of things, and is going to turn 11 this year.

  1. It's a new giant weird thing.  Of course he's scared.

  2. Nope.  He can't hear it, unless it's vibrating in the wind.

The satellite dish is a receiver.  It listens to radio waves, probably microwaves.  These are electromagnetic waves/

Your dog (and you, presumedly) hears sound waves - a mechanical series of compressions and decompressions moving through the air.  It's entirely different from radio waves.  So unless your dog is tuning in reruns of "I Love Lucy" on his fillings, he's avoiding it because it's new and different.
