Can domesticated rats survive outdoors?

one of my rats got out of his cage and ran away...if he gets outside will he survive? i'm really worried about him.

  1. It's really unlikely that he'll survive long if he does get outside.

    If he has his own cage, or you have an extra, put some food and bedding in it and place it on the floor. He'll probably come back on his own.  


  2. Most likely he'll stay indoors.  Leave an extra cage out with food and water, and keep an eye on it.  If you see markings or hints that he's been hanging around an area a lot, put some humane traps down and try to catch him.

    Domestic rats really can't take care of themselves outdoors.  They are instinctual creatures, but they're far from wild.  Plus, the coloring that most domestic rats have (Specifically, all the white many have) attracts predators a lot more then the wild rats' agouti.
