The house painter over got over spray on our front door. He said he can touch it up. It's a wood door painted with latex gloss. It is really possible to touch it up or must the door be repainted?

  1. I would have him repaint the whole thing since it was his fault. Now if it was my fault I would clean up the overspray with some orange cleaner(citrus)and a microfiber washcloth.

  2. Yes he can touch it up but he needs to use latex gloss finish and make sure you approve it once it's 100% dry cause its very tricky matching gloss paint unless you happen to have the formula for the color used on your door.

  3. Gloss paint will not touch up , regardless of the color , it must be re-painted.But if he says he can touch it up , let him try. If its not to your liking , make him paint the whole door. Be sure to watch for "flashing" a condition where the newly touched up paint is glossier than the old paint.

  4. Very hard to touch up latex gloss. Some painters are very good at it and some are very poor. A good painter would have never got over spray on the door in the first place. Your best bet is to have him lightly sand the door and repaint it. If he does not lightly sand the door there is a strong possibility that the new paint will peel.

  5. It can be touched up. Just make sure he does a job to your liking.Never make the last payment until the entire job is done right.  8/23
