Can downloading game roms and emulators damage your PC?

Question

I really want to download emulators and game roms onto my psp but i hear alot of rumors and alot of websites saying that when you download these types of files and software that you run the risk of damaging your PC and infecting with a virus and sometimes even spyware, is this true?, because I am starting to have second thoughts about this.

And if its true, can you tell me a way to rid these files of viruses, or could you tell the kind of files that cause these viruses and spyware.

omg yahoo having problems..

scan with nod32, and it iwll tell you if you get a virus.

goto forums to see if there are users who use the most of one emaluator, goodluck, and i believe they dont damage your computer

dude i download emulators all the time and my computer runs fine.only programs like lime wire and stuff s***w up the computer.i have tons of emulators on my psp and both my pc and psp work fine.but keep in mind that emulators and roms are illegal.so take your chances.if u are worried about it i am positive a cop won't arrest you for downloading games.they have more serious stuff to worry about.also if the cop did arrest u think of it this way:

cop1-i just bust this guy on a huge drug ring

cop2-i just caught a huge gang member

cop3-i just caught this dude downloading nes games.

As you yourself have said, there is always the chance that someone put a virus or spyware program on the emulator.

But that can be said about anything you download off the internet.  Emulators are usually fine.  ROMs are illegal, but also fine (usually).
