Question:

Can dried pollen be still used for pollination?

I asked this question because yesterday I sun-dried some half-open rose buds. I was a bit impatient, so... I got one, opened the petals and in seconds, my fingers are covered with orange pollen!

I wonder if I can still use this for pollinating my other roses.

(N.B.: The roses were exposed to the sun and were subjected to high temperatures)

  1. That pollen should be fine.  The high temperatures could denature the proteins if they were very hot to the touch.  Otherwise it should still work.    My brother only uses cuttings and root growth hormones containing indole 3-butyric acid.  My chemistry teacher had the patent for that chemical so I remember it. It works great unless you are intensionally just crossbreeding them.
