  1. Even though lactose intolerance is common, it is not a threat to good health. People who have trouble digesting lactose can learn which dairy products and other foods they can eat without discomfort and which ones they should avoid. Many people can enjoy milk, ice cream, and other such products if they eat them in small amounts or eat other food at the same time. Others can use lactase liquid or tablets to help digest the lactose. Even older women at risk for osteoporosis and growing children who must avoid milk and foods made with milk can meet most of their dietary needs by eating greens, fish, and other calcium-rich foods that are free of lactose. A carefully chosen diet, with calcium supplements if the doctor or dietitian recommends them, is the key to reducing symptoms.

  2. no

grania: lactose intolerance isn't the same as milk allergy, so what you just said about milk allergy isn't even relevant

Jim: the question was whether or not ingesting lactose was harmful when one is lactose intolerant, not whether or not lactose intolerance per se was harmful.

GOD people, read the ******* question

  3. The bloating and upset feelings you get are caused by a lack of the enzyme lactate, which breaks down lactose (hense, lactose intolerance). When an unprocessed lactose is in your intestines, it will give a great zone for bacteria to grow and produce gas, which causes bloating. Milk in the lower intestine will also draw water out of your system and can cause dehydration and diarrhea. If you already know yourself to be lactose intolerant, check out some over the counter product enzyme supplements that you take with your meal, such as Lactaid. They can be found at your grocery store's medicine isle. However, if you still don't feel better after taking the supplement, you may have an allergy to a part of the milk and Lactaid will then not help.

  4. my friend is lactose intolerant and he has a cheese steak sub almost everyday so no

  5. There is no need for big explanations that muddy the question, the answer is no.

  6. it's possible. if you truly are lactose intolerant you are causing inflammation to a variety of things. Some people are not lactose intolerant but are allergic to a particular protein in milk and other dairy foods. I'm allergic to casein so I go for the rice milk because soy really messed up my digestive system among other things.
