Question:

Can dripping wet rainsoaked cedar lattice over a fishpond harm the fish?

This is the only significant change to my pond since a Heron attacked two weeks ago getting one of my goldfish. Now I have had to treat the fish for an unknown disease today and am looking for possible causes. We are having a very wet summer so the cedar seldom even has time to dry.

  1. As long as the cedar is not not water treated, painted or stained I cannot see it hurting the fish, if it is there to protect the fish, look into vinyl lattice.  Are you treating as a precaution or because they have something and you don't know what it is.  You should not treat unless you know what you are treating for.

  2. Does the cedar have any kind of stain or paint on it? If it does, that might be your problem. The cedar wood alone will not harm your fish. What symptoms are your fish showing?
