Can dvd players play divx format files?

i just downloaded a movie and it is compeltly in divx format .

my dvd player says that it has divx playback.are dvd format and divx format are the same.

  1. Depending on your computer you can burn the file to a cd if it is under 700mb. The dvd player will recognize the file. It can be copied as data or if you have toast (for mac) or Nero (for pc), can burn divx files with no problem. If you burn a dvd, try burning more than one file... most dvds can hold 10-15 divx files..s depending on the size of the file.

  2. they are not the same.  only some newer dvd players support the divx format (which you said yours does).  burn it and try.  Or you can view it on the computer (VLC player will open it and many other formats).  You can even watch it on the TV from the computer if you have a video out (s-video) on the computer, or vga in on the tv so you don't have to waste a disk to burn it.
