  1. Hamsters are naturally curious and intelligent rodents and can try to escape if given a chance. Dwarf hamsters are of a small size and have very flexible bodies and can easily squeeze themselves through a small hole.

That is why you need to get a cage which is meant only for hamsters. Many people buy a cage meant for any rodents and find their hamsters escaping since the wire bars are not spaced closely or the doors are not locked properly. A hamster specific cage like Habitrail, Crittertrail or S.A.M has never faced a problem of a hamster escaping.

Also when you take a hamster out of its cage and play with it, put it in a hamster proof area of your house (no creaks, vents or holes for the hamster to escape) or put it in a hamster playpen or hamster ball (always under your supervision only), both of which you would get at all pet shops. Many pet owners lose their hamsters since they place them anywhere in the house and the hamsters are agile and escape easily.

  2. nope. they have the same chances of escaping as any other hamster. but they can climb very well! soo i recommend not getting a wire cage. the plastic ones with the opening at the top are good.. like this one.. http://www.bitsforpets.com/images/sa-pla... thats the one i had for my hamster and he loved it! just make sure to keep lots of hay around the ramp!

aquariums work good as cages too!

  3. Depends on the cage. If you have one with small spaced wires, and a good door, then no.

  4. well it depends on wut kind of chage you get

  5. It depends on the cage.Hamsters are currious animals, and will always try to escape. They will climb up the bars, chew on themetc, all to try to get out. If you are getting a dwarf, you should look for a cage that says safe for dwarf hamsters, or the bar are VERY close together. Make sure all doors are closed tightly after eath time time you open them. I have a critter trail cage, it is great, my dwarf hamster has never gotten out, and i've had him for like 9 mounths.S.A.M and habitral are good too, just make sure the box says for mice or dwarf hamsters, any cage that says safe for mice should be good to.You could also ask an associate at the store for help.

  6. Any hamster can escape from a cage if its not secured. If you put your cage together correctly then your hamster will not escape

  7. yes. i suggest a cage with no bars.
