Can eating after being very hungry cause heartburn?

I havn't been able to eat recently because of a huge anxiety attack, and anytime I eat I get very gassy in the upper abdomen with heartburn. I'm just a very nervous person. Could the anxiety be causing this? Or could I be over-producing acid because of not eating much for 2 weeks?

  1. yes it can. in fact this happens to me too. my GI doc. told me that cuz your stomach has a PH balance, it gets thrown off when you do not eat on a regular basis and then once your stomach has begun to rumble either the alkaline or acid are higher and lower or vice versa and then you add foods which are one or the other or both and this creates gas which creates pain, bloating, and so forth - heartburn.
