Eating excess sugar is said to cause diabetes. Can you have a similar problem if you eat too much honey, given its extra-sweet taste? Just curious to know.

  1. Eating sugar does not CAUSE diabetes!!

Honey is simply sugar in another form.

Eating HONEY will not cause diabetes either.

  2. My father always said that eating pancake syrup would cause "temporary diabetes".  He ruined my relationship with syrup!  I found that to be untrue - I tested my blood glucose level numerous times after a pancake breakfast and my glucose level never got above 85.  So, the moral of the story is - if you have a fully functioning pancreas, your body can process, store, and use sugar/honey/carbs etc properly.

  3. yes, but its not as bad as sugar

  4. Honey is sugar but eating sugar doesn't cause diabetes. You'll need to read more about diabetes and the different types of sugars to understand how all this works.

  5. Eating sugar or honey DOESN'T cause diabetes, eating too much fat and gaining weight will aid your chance of getting diabetes.

    Diabetes UK response is:

Myth: Eating too much sugar causes diabetes

Eating sugar does not cause diabetes.  Diabetes is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. However, eating a diet high in fat and sugar can cause you to become overweight.  Being overweight increases your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, so if you have a history of diabetes in your family, a healthy diet and regular exercise are recommended to control your weight.

  6. honey is chemically identical to sugar, it has the same impact on any one, diabetic or not.  It does not howerver cause diabetes.  Nor does refined sugar or any other kind of sugar.  Diabetes is a good deal more complicated than that.

  7. SUGAR is the whole reason people have diabetes.  I can't medically prove it (And you can't medically disproof it), but if you look at fact that early reported cases of DIABETES started when humans kept adding bunch of sugar to foods.... then you'll trace the pattern for yourself.

  8. Any food should be eaten in moderation. Don' overdo anything. Diabetes is a very serious disease and many factors play into whether an individual will get diabetes. If you're interested in the history of how the disease was discovered, read "Glory Enough for All."
