  1. It's probably better not to have a big meal right before you swim.  It might weigh you down and could give you a cramp.

  2. It can, but starving is not the way to go...

You need to feed the right nutrients to your body or else you won't perform to your optimum speed.  Just don't eat empty calories and definitely don't eat sweets like chocolate.  Soft serve ice cream or frozen yogurt isn't bad though.  Just eat healthy-you will lose weight and if you go a 31 in the 50 fly you'll soon be going under 30!

  4. I actually think that it would make you slower because it would tire you out more. I know a few chunky people that are good swimmers.. the body is practically weightless in water so it would have virtually no effect. Thats the case with Hippos, their about 7 tonnes or so and in water they feel like they only weigh 200 pounds. so, think of one pound of food (if you want to overdue it)- in water that weighs you down by about 20 or so grams.

  5. You shouldn't eat so much right before you start swimming because it can slow you down.  But you shouldn't go out and starve yourself.  I get really hungry after I swim so that's when I eat.

Always stick to healthy foods like fruit and vegetables.  And make sure you eat some meat because that can help give you muscle which can help you swim faster. : ]
