  1. Unfortunately, no.  Communism relies on centralization of economic power with the state to keep control through denying private property rights.  In a capitalist system, private property rights are the underpinning of the system.  Individuals are incentive based creatures and will follow their own best interests, to advance their own well being (can be read: economic interests).  Modern governments in capitalist countries exist primarily to enforce and protect private property rights.

However, modern democracies have turned to more populist policies to attempt to redistribute wealth because of perceived failures of market systems.  These interventions have failed miserably at every turn and created entire generations of people who feel that the government will and should provide them with all of their basic needs.  Because there are so many more "have nots" than "haves" in an economy, politician pander to them on levels that they know will secure the voting block.  As a result of this pandering, and the sense of entitlement that comes with it, the list of basic needs continues to grow.

Milton Friedman said it best:  "Free markets give you free people."  The only problem is, free people eventually give you socialism once they realize they can get a politician to hand them something.

  2. I can't, can you?

  3. Not as long as politics is about spending peoples money.

  4. Most of politics is the competition between interest groups  for the biggest or a bigger share of the economic pie. Most groups claim they care about  the welfare of the nation  or the poor  etc and use economic arguments to justify their position. They often get legislation and regulations that are bad for the economy  but  enhance their own welfare.I don't see how this will ever end but in a democracy  it is limited because the people in power when the economy does badly   are voted out of office and their policies are reversed. In countries with a permeate ruling class the entrench interest usually stifle  the economy  by promoting their own interest .

  5. Before answering this question, we should define politics.  If the ordinary selfish people whom we call politicians are included in the definition, then the answer is different.  In India, we have charlatans as politicians who are bent upon amassing wealth.  Such people should be ruthlessly kept away from the framers of economic policy.  Real statesmen who love the country should be entrusted with the duty of framing economic policies.  Along with them good economists also should join hands.   U.K.Atiyodi
