Question:

Can ethanol powered cars pass CA smog requirements?

Ethanol cars put out more CO2 than gasoline. BUT it's unsequesered carbon, so it shouldn't be a problem. Nevertheless, the law is the law, and if the PPM is higher than gas gives, does the law allow for this? Or are bureaucrats still runnng in slow motion?

  1. Dear Turingsc,

Gasoline is one of the dirtiest fuels that you can get.  If you put ten percent ethanol as a fuel additive in your tank, your car will pass almost any smog test!  Methanol works the same.  buy denatured alcohol at a hardware store, put in one half gallon to five gallons of gasoline, and give 'er the test.  Don't tell them what you've done, Just say that you have just tuned it up.  Drive it about a mile first, and be sure you have extra fuel filters with  you.  The alcohol may knock loose gunk from  your gas tank and plug things up.  Also be sure you know where the filters are and how to change them.
