  1. Esophageal cancer treatment depends on the type, the location, and the stage of the cancer.  Other factors are the person's age, overall health, and personal preferences. Decisions about therapy can be complicated because various combinations of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation may be more effective than any single treatment.  When cancer is advanced, choosing a treatment plan is a difficult decision.  Sometimes it is treated with radiation and chemotherapy alone - without trying surgical resection, but that is often in palliative situations rather than for an attempt at cure.

Here's a good review from the Mayo Clinic

  2. Hi :)

I'm 15 & have esophageal cancer atm. Firstly, i was undergoing radiotherapy & chemotherapy, but unfortunately, the cancer cells developed into tumours. Last friday, i had surgery to remove the two tumors, but today i sadly found out i have 3 more tumors, so in regards to your question, in some cases, yes, it can be treated without surgery but it depends on how acute the case.

    Hope this helped!
