Question:

Can exfoliating help with body psoriasis?

I am just wondering if scrubbing the body while showering or using certain body washes can help in controlling body psoriasis. Also, will it help with scalp psoriasis. My understanding of the condition is that it is over producing skin cells and the cells not being shed fast enough. Thanks for the help!

  1. Don't use apricot scrubs or any thing with exfoliating beads it's bad for your skin. Use Cetaphil for sensitive skin body bar and Eucerin,Cetaphil,Nivea and keep your skin moist and clean. Scrubbing your skin to get the flakes off just encourages the skin to get thicker and produce more scales. Also the skin underneath the scales becomes more vulerable to cuts and injury when you bump into things.

Above all see a dermatologist and treat it. I have it. I know it's a life long battle. It's embarrasing. I've tried everything I could get over the counter and nothing works to make it go away. I can't afford a visit to the dermatologist, much less what ever they would prescribe for me.

Just watch the steroids. Doctors love to prescribe Prednisone for everything. It can make you gain weight and has other side affects.

Do research. Go to your local library and read some books on skin disorders. Sometimes you will know as much as the doctors and that is a real big help when it comes to understanding treatments.

The medical profession is a business. If they can keep you coming back then they make more and more money off you. That's when the knowledge comes in handy. Good luck, and see if you can get cortozone cream at 10% strength, not 1.0 like over the counter brands. That might help. Good luck.
