Can existing cars running on diesel engines be converted to lpg?

Question

From what I've read, it seems that conversion of diesel engines to lpg are not that common, if ever it is possible. Some say that the conversion will entail the use of diesel and lpg at the same time. Can anyone show me a site where I can research further on the conversion of existing diesel engines to lpg. thanks

A diesel engine has no spark plugs and relies on the heat of compression to ignite the fuel air mixture.  Diesel fuel has a low temperature of ignition compared to LPG which would probably not ignite without a spark plug in a diesel engine.  Further the compression ratio would probably be too high for the LPG to burn smoothly in a modified diesel engine incorporating spark plugs.  The fuel injection system may not be suitable with a less lubricating fuel.  In short I feel it would be a difficult conversion.

Only gasoline engines can be converted to run on LPG that is economically sound.

On diesel engines, it is much better to switch to biodiesel. There are plenty of do-it-yourself instructions on how to make biodiesel in the net.

I know diesel ship engines can run on NG (with a little modification), so its probably possible.   How much do you want to spend is the question.
