  1. being blind depends on what in the eye is actually causing the blindness. and yes, eyes (parts) from a deceased person can be put into a blind person to help them see, it just depends on what in the eye. some parts in the eye cant be fixed because of the mal-practice rates in lab study. If you want really good info, then take the long way and research.eye transplants.

  2. OH MY GOD, THAT WAS THE BEST TWILIGHT ZONE EPISODE EVARRRRRRR!

  3. I am not sure how true that is but I believe so. Have you seen that movie with Jessica Alba "The Eye" it is a pretty good movie, use your own judgement. Your question just reminded me of that movie.

  4. No the organ dies with the body. As of now, this cannot be done. Think about it, if they could do this, wouldn't blind people be able to see.

  5. No

  6. No the technology does not yet exist to attach the optic nerve. All that is transplanted is the cornea and the eyes have to be removed from the deceased with in hours of death.

  7. Well, remember the movie John Q?  It revolved around a father that had a son that needed a heart transplant.  Scenes that involved a woman crashing, dying, and being immediately put into the ER confirmed that she was compatible for his son's heart.

Eyes can't be transplanted in whole, but the CORNEAS are.  So in essence eyes from a dead body CAN be transplanted AS LONG AS they are retrieved from the newly dead person IMMEDIATELY (as in a few hours at most).

  8. As part of organ donation, if you are in an accident you can donate your corneas, which are a part of your eye, which would help certain blind people see again if they had the surgery to have their corneas removed and yours put in their place.

I'm not sure about the whole eye

  9. no we have not figured out that just yet, we can exchange chornias but not the whole eye. and when we do we will only be a few steps from the brain.

  10. Only the cornea can be transplanted.  If someone is blind because of cornea scars, then a corneal transplant will allow them to see again.
