  1. Well, it depends on which organization you join.

In the U.S. I am a member of ISI (Ice skating institute), and USFSA (United States figure skating association. ISI is more recreational. In those competitions any type of music is allowed, as long as there are no explicit language, and it is within the time limit. Vocals are permitted, but usually the higher level skaters use just instrumental music.

USFSA, however, is a different story. This is a more serious, and professional club. I have not competed in a USFSA competition yet, but I know this much: No one ever uses vocals in their music. Look at the Olympic skaters. Michelle Kwan never used vocal music. Neither does any of today's skaters. These competitions are serious, and the music needs to match this additiude. They will even say No vocal music.

I couldn't find a specific article debating about vocal music, but here is a article about Dance music. Keep in mind, pair dancing is probably not as serious as technical programs, but still, it is diffucult to choose music.

Here are some instrumental song suggestions:

"Pirates of the Caribbean" (The Black Pearl)

    "Pirates" The Blue Sky Project

    "Unfaithful - instrumental version" Rihanna

"Apologize - instrumental version" One Republic

"Can Can" Orpheous of the Underworld

    "Dawn" Pride and Prejudice

    "Ninth Symphony (Scherzo) (Exc.)" Beethoven

    "Georgiana" Pride and Prejudice

I hope this helps! Good Luck!

  2. Generally in figure skating competitions, vocals are not permitted, only instrumental music allowed.  Music with vocals are only allowed in exhibition.  Hope that answers your question!

  3. In competitive programs following ISU rules or your national figure skating body's rules, lyrics are not permitted except in the case of the freedance event.  ISI rule do permit lyrics, but is not internationally recognized as the skating governing body.  I cannot speak to inline/roller skating rules.

  4. it depends what your skating.

in isi and lower level competitions it is allowed.

in usfsa levels you can no longer do that. from no-test through senior you can no longer skate with lyrics unless it is a showcase program or an artistic program.
