  1. no, they don't go under the skin. They do bite the animals skin causing discomfort and some animals are extrememly allergic to fleas causing a lot of scabs and redness.

  2. No, not under the skin. There are other things that can. I'm not sure why you are asking. If you see something under your cat's skin? It could just be bumps from a skin infection. If you can actually see something moving under the skin, it could be a cuterebra . It's basically a fly larvae that lives under an animals skin. It gets there through a wound that's already present. It needs to be removed by a vet.

  3. No, but bot flies do.

  4. Not really no they will be visible running around on the skin of the animal.

A tick will burrow into the skin.

If you have a cat with ticks make sure you speak to your vet for treatment as some dog tick collars or treatments are toxic for cats.

  5. Fleas live on the surface of the skin but will bite and draw blood, Ticks however will burrow right under the skin and will live there but most the time the back half is exposed. If your animal has either fleas or ticks something should be done about it right away. Fleas when they get in your home will multiply like crazy and they might start biting you? Ticks can also bite you and burrow into your skin and make you ill. The illness that they cause is call lyme disease and will cause an infection. Left untreated it can cause the following it can affect the nervous system, causing temporary facial paralysis (Bell's Palsy), stiff neck, meningitis, numbness, and loss of motor coordination. Other symptoms include irregular heartbeat, severe fatigue, and numbness. During later stages of the disease, swollen joints (often the knees) and intermittent of chronic arthritis may develop.
