Question:

Can fleas fly in from outside?

I have seen two cat fleas (I think) in my house today. The funny thing is, my cat went and failed to return one month ago and I had applied a protective flea drop anyway, so she was clean when she got lost.

So. Can they have flown from outside? There is a meadow right across the street where all kinds of strays and birds live.

Urgh! I feel scratchy!

  1. You need to keep other cats out of your house if possible and you can only keep applying regular preventative flea treatment to your cat and spray your house with special flea spray to treat the furniture and bedding with to keep this unavoidable problem under control. Its the wild animals that are probably spreading the fleas.

  2. yes they can.

  3. umm fleas dont fly  lol jk......having your cat outside(even with the flea stuff on it) doesnt mean your cat is clean. all the flea drop stuff does is make it so the fleas in your house dont lay eggs...if your cat was outside, then this really isnt doing anything. Your cat probably brought a few inside.

edit: no fleas usually dont come in from outside

  4. Fleas cannot fly, they jump.  They attach themselves to your cat and then come in the house.  Once in the house they then jump off the cat and nest in your furniture.

Frontline spot on will kill the fleas on your cat, but will not treat your furniture.  The fleas were probably left over form when your cat was there and have breed.  They will feed on lots of things, not just a cat.  You need to treat all your furnishings with a suitable flea treatment,

  5. nope.. they jus attatch to the cat [=

its horrible mine used 2 bring them in all the time..

    trysome differnet flee stuff :)

if its only 2 the chances are its not even fleas :)

    but dw they cant fly

  6. Fleas are usually a rare thing, unless you live or walk through an infested area, or have a pet with some. Even if you kill them off in the house, you may need to treat for them again due to the flea eggs hatching. If you don't have a bunch of animals in your yard, I don't think you'd find any fleas from the ones across the street. Even so, there's a yard treatment you can get at most department or hardware stores to take care of the area around your home. But fleas have no wings. They have to jump on a passing animal or human to go anyplace.
