Can flies feel heat?

I absolutely hate flies, but how is it they can land on hot food etc (not mine lol).

They don't land on food because its hot they do because they sense chemicals (in the same way our tongue or nose does). But they can sense heat (I assume) because every animal can to find shelter (in the cool dark damp areas) and it also needs to know if its too cold.
