I just want to know if a male flowerhorn is able to breed with a female red devil, i saw on this web site that they successfully bred it.http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141624 Will it be super aggressive? I am so excited.

  1. I've seen a video on youtube before similar to this(and am a current member of monsterfishkeepers, my name is PsychoforCichlids!) My local fish store told me that flowerhorns mate with many other types of cichlids, so I guess I believe that the fish could really be the hybrid you mentioned. It almost looks like a red devil/dovii....nice fish either way!

  2. If you have a male and a female then it is possible for them to cross but whereas the flowerhorn is a hybrid already, it might be sterile and not be able to produce any babies for you. I likewise have over 55 years experience in the aquarium hobby and will not knowingly buy a hybrid fish. Unless I happen to want some common livebearing fish like the swordtails/platys or mollies which most aquariums strains are hybrids. It is possible that the common angelfish are hybrids but it is not for certain so I do keep them. In th future I am hoping to be able to breed Altum angelfish, I have a 150 gallon aquarium that i will be putting them in.

  3. of course they will. after all, flower horns are mongrel cichlids with so many breeds mixed in. everybody keeps on adding to the brew. imo, no flowerhorn will ever be as spectacular as a trimac from which the original flowerhorns were derived. anyone who has seen a 20" male trimac will  know what i mean.   i used to be a cichlid fanatic keeping and breeding and selling cichlids like managuense, maculicauda, synspilum, festae, uropthalmus, temporale, carpinte, t.buttikoferi, t.mariae, dovii, freidrichstahli, octofasciatum, the usual malawi, angels, rams, kribs, angels, and some more i can't recall. i have never and will never own a flower horn. i'm gonna get a alot of thumbs down for this but pure is better! it's getting so i'm afraid to buy a fish because i dont know what the babies will look like.

  4. Yes I think they can. The temperament would likely be like that of the parents.

But, do you really want hybrids? If so, go for it.
