Question:

Can flowers be moved from funeral homes to nursing homes?

How would I go about doing it?

As a sort of community service project....

It's sad that all those flowers go to waste because the funeral home's throw them out if the family of the bereaved doesn't want them.

Any ideas?

  1. I'd call it disrespectful to reuse them for anything except maybe with express permission from the families.

They are their property, as well as memories.

And I don't think I'd like the thought of having old flowers from a funeral to cheer up a nursing home. Rather morbid if you ask me.

  2. Actually, we do take them to nursing homes.  I have never thrown flowers away.  I have my assistants take any flowers that the family chose not to take to our local nursing homes.  The nurses or staff pull the flowers out of the baskets and put them in vases that are then set around for the older folks to enjoy.
