I've been told that if you drive over 25 miles one way to work that fuel may be taken off on taxes. also that clothing and shoe required for the job may be deducted as well.

  1. Find the person who told you this far fetched story and tell the to PROVE their statement.

I hate people that just say things while not offering a shred of evidence to support their statement.

You cannot deduct commuting mileage.  You can deduct driving mileage when you use you vehicle for work purposes.  99.9% of the time your employer would reimburse you at a rate (I believe) of 50-1/2 cents per mile.

Work clothing and shoes can be deducted IF they exceed 2% of you adjusted gross wages.

You can answer your tax questions if you go to http://www.irs.gov/

Some advise, always be skeptical  when someone offers tax advise.  My info comes from a family member who is a CPA.

  2. Are you KIDDING THE Dumb Government would never allow That

  3. A regular commute cannot be taken off your taxes - mileage for temporary assignments is another thing altogether.

Regular clothes and shoes cannot be taken off your taxes - uniforms and safety equipment can be taken off.

  4. I think you live on another planet.
