Can gas be made out of waste products? Specifically, can fuel for cars be made from ummm p**p? If it could wouldn't we have an endless supply of a natural, recycled, high octane gas? Just a thought. Help me out and tell me why this is a good or a bad idea.

  1. As a science experiment, yes... as a viable source of fuel, not really.  Some dumps are capturing their methane and breaking even on the effort, but there isn't enough to even consider for a primary source of fuel/energy.

  2. A diesel like fuel can be made from most organic material.  It could probably be cracked into something lighter that would run a gas motor.

  3. Renewable green hydrocarbon gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel made from wood waste is being worked on by the Univ. of Mass., Amherst, Iowa State Univ. ConocoPhillips and others.

  4. Yes...

but you really need a cow p**p as many as you can to your methane digester to supply you with CNG

  5. YES! It's called methane, or natural gas, and the technology already exisits to run cars on it. I have 2 of them myself, both made by Ford way back in 1999 and 2000. Natural gas is super cheap, super clean-burning, and plentiful in the USA. It's a great idea and I wish more people knew about it. The only problem now is that not every state has refueling stations, but with help from the local government, that really shouldn't be a problem. I think it's just a matter of getting the word out and putting pressure on the local officials to provide incentives to install the pumps at filling stations. Check out my favorite website for more info regarding this.

  6. Waste matter of all kind can be made into oil or gas. It was done years ago-not very well done but done. Using sewage in an efficient process would produce about 10% of the fuel used right now but that would require good engineering. At this time only poorly engineered processes are in use. A good engineered system could make all the oil humans would ever need at a cost about $25 per barrel of oil. Its just a matter of will and good engineering.
