  1. no of course it won't hurt your pregnancy. that's standard procedure with every preggo dr appt to do a pap. they have to make sure your cervix is okay and everything is going according to plan. so you'll be doing those monthly. and they will do a urine test to confirm the pregnancy. but you have to tell them you're preggo or they won't do it if they don't know. and you need to make sure you're seeing the correct doctor. you need to go to an obgyn, not just your regular doctor. if you don't know an obgyn, your doctor could probably refer you to one. good luck! i'm about 10 weeks with my second!

  2. I had one around 8 weeks.  You'll be fine. :)

  3. Almost every single woman has had at least one pap during their pregnancy and look how many babies there are in the world. It's a normal routine during pregnancy, it won't hurt your baby. If it would hurt your baby your doctor wouldn't do it.

  4. Right now they will probably use your first day of your last menstral period to guess how far you are. They may or may not do an ultrasound. A pap should not hurt your pregnancy. I however was concerned (due to my medical history) and when I talked about it with my docter he waited until after 12 weeks to do my pap. Whatever you do make sure to make your concerns known to your docter. They are there for you and the baby. Good Luck and Congrats!!

  5. I am 10 wks pregnant and I had to get a pap at 8wks and everything is fine.  It will not hurt the baby. I had a pap because I was getting my yearly pap.  I am not sure though about your doctor wanting to know how far along you are for doing the pap.  The only way to tell is through an ultrasound they can measure the fetus, they can't tell this early by doing a pap how far along you are.

  6. No.  They will not look at your uterus but feel your uterus by pressing on your stomach.  They can tell your pregnant by feeling your uterus from your stomach and checking if your cervix is closed and by the position.  The pap smear is the check your cervix for any cells, just like a regular pap. The cervix is completely closed so they cannot get passed it.  They just do the swab thing and that's it.  It will not hurt the baby one bit.

This is the only time they will do a pap, but just wait until your further and the check for dialation and effacement. I swear they stick their whole arms in there.  Congrats

  7. having a pap is a normal procedure during pregnancy..no harm will be done...dont worry

  8. No, they do it all the time.  The speculum isn't gonna poke the baby.

  9. yes it can, depending on how its done, i refused one until i was 6weeks post, last week.

i did risk it, i had a miscarriage in the past.

    but its up to u.

  10. A pap won't harm you or your baby but at this stage the only accurate way to figure out how far along exactly (or nearly exact) is by ultrasound.  She may order one up for you if you are unsure when you conceived but many offices now a days have smaller ultrasound machines in them.  You may get lucky and get one from your ob!  :)

Edited to add: They don't perform paps at every appointment.  Once in the beginning to make sure you're healthy and then later they will check you for dilation but that's not until you're nearing the end.

  11. no doing a pap on you wont hurt. they did one on me early on. and also when you are further along docs will be sticking almost their whole hand up your v-jay to see if you dilated or if your cervix has dropped. i never did either and i swear my doc would put her WHOLE hand way in there because they could never find my cervix :o(

  12. Getting a pap is normal during pregnancy..... They will tell u how far along you are based on your last period but trust me 85% of the time it's not accurate..... I would trust the ultrasound
