Can getting engaged to a U.S. citizen help someone with an expired Visa?

are you saying, that you are in the US, with an expired visa but you are getting engaged? if your visa is expired, i would say, leave before you get caught and are caught and forbidden to sit foot in the US for a 10 years period, plus a fine,

love has nothing to do with the law............

and the likelihood of you getting caught? is very very high anyhow, and anyway

Being engaged doesn't make any difference under US immigration law. Once they marry, then the American spouse could file an immigrant petition for the someone with an expired Visa, along with various other documents like an I-485, that would allow that certain someone to adjust to immigrant status in the US and get a green card, assuming, of course, they are truely in love.
