  1. that is a good question but they can't not in captivity

  2. yes they breed , but im not sure if they lay eggs or are like guppies

  3. I don't see why they couldn't.  They are still zebra danios, and the alteration that was done has nothing to do with the reproductive system.  Copperhead has a degree in microbiology and I bet he would know much more in depth about this matter.  I don't have that extensive of experience in biology and genetics to know if you alter anything on the DNA level that it will or will not adversely effect reproduction.  Just looking at this on face value, I'd be inclined to think they can breed.  I do not believe that all glo fish for sale are not being bred, and only altered.  I believe this because if this were the case, I'd suspect the price of these fish would be much more higher then you see at stores.

  4. Yes they can breed and Jon V has a very smart point to validate that they can reproduce...even at $3-$6 a fish...they would be much more and much harder to obtain if they were all genetically altered one by one...more like $30 a fish...or more.  The Demand would be greater than the supply...especially since Zebra Danios are school fish...altered or not.

Best of Luck...and have fun with your Altered Zebras.

  5. They lay eggs and yes they can mate!!

  6. Yes, glofish can breed, and they reproduce more glofish.  They are just genetically modified zebra danios (Brachydanio rerio), and breed just like normal zebras.

More info about glofish at this site http://www.glofish.com

  7. Yes you can breed Glowfish.

They are just weird coloured Danios, so treat them the same.

The GE thing just relates to a gene that controls their colour, the other 99.999% of their genetics is normal Danio.

The original glowfish were modified in a Lab, all the pet shops ones are bred from those originals.

  8. I'm not sure, but I'd like to find out.

To the first answerer, this is NOT a stupid question.
