  1. you need to get a converter.. i bought one before i went over, but my hair dryer barely blew out any hot air! it was awful! i recommend buying hair products (dryers, straighteners, etc.) from stores while in japan..

  2. Japan plugs, have two prongs in them, just like most of the plugs here in the US. So size wise, any two prong plug you have can fit into their plug.

But when it comes to the matter of volts some appliances will work while others don't.

Check on your hairdryer and see if you can see anywhere on it that says how many volts the hairdryer can stand. If you see "50-60Hz" or a number close to 100v then the hairdryer should be safe.

If you look at my source you will see more detailed explanations on how Japanese plugs compare to our own.

  3. The device will work if you get a plug converter. That is the only thing that you need to worry about. Almost all of your electronics will work then.
