Can heartburn be a sign of pregnancy? I never in my life have had it before. I'm 24 and just think it's weird I just started getting it a day or two ago. I get nervous every month that I'm pregnant, but this month is probably more possible than the past months I've worried. Just wondering if anyone has ever got heartburn right prior to finding out they were pregnant? I also have been on a new anitbiotic sine last week. Maybe that is causing it... I don;t know..

  1. Heartburn can occur for many different reasons. Heartburn occurs during pregnancy but doesn't occur until the second and third trimester. The reason it happens in pregnancy is because of the hormones and enlarged uterus pushing everything up. The only way to know for sure is a pregnancy test. If you are not planning to get pregnant why worry yourself each month, try going on birth control and practice safe s*x; its much better trust me....instead of waiting for your period. Good luck :)

  2. Not sure if this will help or not.. but I was the same way. I NEVER had heartburn in my entire life. But during my pregnancy, I had it constantly. I was never seen without a pack of  Tums.

So I don't necessarily know if it could be a SIGN of pregnancy, but for me it was SYMPTOM of the pregnancy. =)

And you should read the side effect warnings with your antibiotic and see if heartburn could be a side effect. Also - call your doctor to find out if it's normal for that medication to cause heartburn, and it wouldn't hurt to grab a home pregnancy test if you're that worried. =)

Isaiah is due 12/13/08... lol .. sign of a lot of hair? =) I had HORRIBLE heart burn and my son came out bald as good be =) Well.. he actually had a little "Alf-Alfa" patch on the top of his head that stood straight up. But other than that... bald bald bald. haha - he actually didn't start getting hair until he was about 10 -11 months old. =)

  3. I had it with my first, but not my second. I didn't start right away, maybe when I was like 2-3 months. As you get older your body also changes and you can get stuff you wonder where the c**p did that come from. I am also 24 I have bad acid in my stomach from certain foods now. It just comes along with the territory of getting older. :) If you still think you might be prego take a test in a couple of weeks. good luck!

  4. no because you don't get heartburt until about 5 months. And you would know if you were 5 months preg.

  5. yes heartburn is a sign of pregnancy...i had it b4 i found out and it was horrible..it was actually keeping me up at night...n then i thought it was a lil weird cuz i never get it either..so i took a test the next day and sure enough i was pregnant :)

  6. I can be a symptom, but most people don't experience heartburn until later on in the pregnancy. That's because the baby is pushing up.

  7. it can be but it could. however you can get heartburn for many other reasons. I didn't start getting heartburn until this past year when i started my sophmore year of college. my doctor told me it was from stress and bad eating habits and ended up diagnosing me with acid reflux. so i wouldn't worry about it too much.

  8. If your getting nervous each moth that your pregnant, wouldn't the smart thing to do is take extra precautions?

Heartburn is common in pregnancy's, but usually not in early pregnancy. (though i'm not saying its not, as some woman would/ have had it) Heart burn can be due to a tummy bug or many other things

  9. Yes, heartburn can occur in pregnancy. It can happen in the first trimester, but is most common in the late second and third trimesters. It is caused by the hormones, and in the second and third trimesters, by the pressure of your growing uterus on your stomach. It makes your stomach smaller and squished, so food is more likely to "come back up" and cause the heartburn.

A university somewhere in the US, I can't remember which, set out to disprove the old wives tale that heartburn means you'll have a baby with a lot of hair, and actually found it to be true. Heartburn is stimulated by the same hormones that cause fetal hair growth. Interesting, eh?
