  1. Actually drinking milk is not really a good plan. The stomach produces acid to help break down foods, but it gets a little bit more acid delivered to break down calcium (bone). Milk has calcium, Tums and Rolaids have calcium, so these are also not the best thing for long term aid. Check the label on your antacids and make sure that they don't contain calcium.

My acid issue got so bad that if I drank water got the burn. I ended up going to the doctor and getting a prescription drug to block the acid production. However my brilliant Insurance company has denied benefits for the best working drug available to me and now take a cheap alternative PLUS chewing antacids daily.

Get a check up with your doctor and determine what your problem is, then get treatment. common ordinary heartburn should not last all day.

  2. You poor thing. I totally understand how you feel. I'm pregnant and am having the worst case of heartburn. Nothing seems to help, atleast for me. But here are few things you can try.

    - Drink lots of milk (since I'm allergic to milk i eat yogurt)

    - Avoid spicy, oily food (i have tried this. one day i lived only on bread but it was no better. but its worth a try)

    - Sleep with ur head a bit topped up. use two or three pillows. (this does help a bit)

I totally recommend you to see a doctor if you have sever heartburn. Ofcuz there are some medicines which are available over the counter like Tums or Gelusin (not sure about the spelling).

Also, if you taking any other medications, the heartburn can be due to that, as your doctor about that as well.
