Can hermit crabs die of heartache?

my poor hermit crab is almost gone =/ i tried to keep it happy i really did, my other one is fine. i put the dying one in its own cage to stay comfortable but its just soo sad. i know its "just a hermit crab" but im gonna miss him =[ i have a feeling that him and my other crab really liked eachother, so can my otherone die of heartache? i know its possible for people to, believe it or not. so can they? because i really dont want both of them to die! =/

  1. Crabs don't really love each other the same way people do. They may appreciate some companionship, but they don't feel very much love for one another at all. So, no, it won't die of heartache.


  2. maybe you could buy another few and see if they like living in a group?

  3. Hermit crabs are very social it will definitely affect him not kill him though.

    You should buy them in 3's so when one is molting the other has a companion check this forum out http://hermitcrabassociation.com/

It is common for hermit crabs to live together, but they do not really socialize with each other, in fact it is not unheard of for a hermit crab to kill another so he can take its shell.  My best guess is that your one hermit crab is probably sick.  So it is good that you have separated them.  Hermit crabs do well with others or by themselves.    Good Luck
