Question:

Can high quality headphones give a surround sound effect?

I can't enjoy my games and movies fully with the standard speakers on my TV. I want to get a surround sound system, but my parents don't want my little sister to be exposed to a lot of explicit stuff, and I manily watch and play action movies and games. So could some high quality headphones be a substitute?

  2. Yeah.. The best ones are BOSE!

  3. They sure can feel like its but it will never be because of the fact that it is only running over 2 channel . But yes it can feel as if your in the movie.

  4. No headphone will ever give you surround sound since all they do is output stereo. You could buy the 5.1 headphones, but they are usually crippled by bad fit and bad positioning so it just sounds horrible. You can get headphones with good soundstage, which means like you're sitting in a middle of a concert hall at a symphony, and get headphones that have good positioning, meaning you can hear a sound almost behind you, which is good for first person shooters since you can hear if someone is behind you or not, but it's simulated rather than true surround sound. You would have to pay more for headphones that do that really well. Also since you're in a environment that requires a closed headphone, rather than a open headphone, then the choices I find pretty good are Audio Technica ATH-500, ATH-700, ATH-900, also Beyerdynamic DT770.and the Ultrasone PRO 650. If you want more recommendations, you might want to drop by a forum called Headfi. It's a pretty good community to ask about headphones and related components.
