Question:

Can home schoolers get scholarships?

I was just wondering if home schoolers could still get scholarships. I went to public school from kindergarten through my freshman year. I took online classes last year and am going to take them again for my junior year. I am also graduating a year early. So even though I'm not going to public school is it still possible to get scholarships? Is it more difficult? Anything else you can tell me would also be helpful.

  1. well first it depend on what is the School the u want to go then u need to see a financial id then they will call u to go in for a test an see where u are like your level they may give u a 50% because u have home schoolers i did home schooling and i got 1/2 scholarships for VA universiti

  2. Sure, home schoolers get scholarships. My oldest son was home schooled from the middle of kindergarten on. He won two full scholarships. He literally gets paid to go to college because the excess beyond his tuition and books gets paid to him directly. He will be graduating this December with a degree and we didn't pay a penny in tuition or books.

  3. try looking at places like fastweb.com. you can get many different scholarships from there. it helped me when i was trying to find money for school and i was homeschooled as well.

another is wiredscholar.com too but i don't know if that one exists anymore.

  4. Yes.  I suggest studying for the SAT and/or ACT tests.

  5. My daughter received several scholarships.  Some she found out about while volunteering at the hospital, some through the college she attended, and our state offers a scholarship from the lottery (it is called Hope).  We qualified for Hope right away since we went under an accredited umbrella program.  Extra money is offered from Hope for those getting the GED.  Check to see if your state offers a lottery scholarship and what the requirements are.

Someone gave us the idea to ask local banks for ideas about scholarships because they know what trust funds are being kept in their bank.  Additionally, some colleges offer special scholarships and grants to allure homeschoolers.

We signed up for Fastweb, which is a website that links to various scholarships and grants.  However, I found it was just a fast way to get p**n sent to my email address.

  6. Yes they can apply for them the same as any student in any public or private school.  This is a question that is asked a lot by parents that are considering home schooling as an option.

We all know that in today's society that schooling should not end with high school. Many parents are concerned that if they home school their children that this will create a problem for college life. Well it is not true. Studies have shown that over 74% of home-educated adults ages 18–24 have taken college-level courses, compared to 46% of the general United States population .

As online charter schools grow and are offered in more an more areas, the idea of home schooling is changing. A diploma from an online charter school is recognized no different than one from a public or private school.

The same as any school, most offer some of the harder classes that they might call "college track " for students that are anticipating going to college. It's important to remember that colleges often require certain subjects, and sometimes tests like the SATs or ACTs. Kids and parents need to plan to be sure that the home schooling experience is preparing the child to pursue the college or career he or she has in mind. It might be a good idea before high school starts to look into a few colleges and see exactly what the requirements are. For example, my son graduated an online charter school and now attends The University Of Dayton ( a private university) with scholarships, but one of the requirements to be accepted there is that ALL students must have completed one year of Algebra.

So for those of you in doubt that a home schooled child can be accepted into a good college, believe me, they can.

  7. Yes.  Any scholarship that isn't specifically tied to a public or private school is also open to homeschoolers.

The only thing more difficult is that you have to do all the legwork yourself - your parents are your teachers, guidance counselors, and principal.  You don't have someone who gets paid to do that for you (though honestly, mine never did).

There are tons of publications in print and online that list scholarships and grants, along with their requirements and qualifications.  Grab a highlighter, go through the list, and do your darndest to earn the ones you qualify for :)

  8. h**l yeah. Go to a college counsellor and ask them. There're always research scholarships laying around where some company says: "We'll pay for all your schooling if you agree to research this after you get out".

  9. Definitely! You'll be elegible for nearly all of the same scholarships public schoolers are able to apply for. Check out a website like fastwebs.com or scholarships.com to get lists of scholarships you can apply for. I'm homeschooled, and I've already applied for about 10 scholarships including the Florida Bright Futures scholarship. Some individual colleges offer their own scholarships as well that you can try for. Be sure to take the PSAT and SAT or ACT as well as your scores on these tests will help you earn scholarships. Good luck!

  10. Absolutely!  My neighbours have five kids and home school.  Only two of them are left in the house(11 & 13 yo), the rest went to college.

Look online, here are a couple of good places.
