I have been homeschooled ever since ninth grade and I get almost all A's in school, but I just don't know what kind of college I can get into.

  1. Would you consider Harvard a good college? They have homeschoolers who get in each year. 99.9% of colleges have no problem with the fact you were homeschooled.

  2. Additional information:

To get into colleges, usually you must take the SAT or ACT exams.  Colleges will consider those as evidence of your likely success if they admit you.

Colleges will also look at extracurricular activities and community service.  If you're an Eagle scout and you have volunteered at the local animal shelter for four years, it will look good to the elite universities.

Finally, most of the selective colleges require you to write an admissions essay.  They'll give you different prompts, but in all cases you should try to communicate that you have a clear long-term career goal, that this college is a good next step toward that career, that you view the career as something more than just a way to earn money, and that you have an "attitude of gratitude" toward those who have helped you learn and grow so far.

Oh, and then there are those special considerations, like if you're a legacy or a scholarship athlete.  Probably you're none of those...

  3. Many colleges have started actively recruiting homeschoolers.  Here is some information on homeschool-friendly colleges:

  4. absolutely! i'm living proof, i was homeschooled my whole life and I'm currently at Eastern Michigan University. It was no problem getting in, I just had to take a minor entrance test so that they could evaluate my skills for proper placement (I was still a freshmen, but I was able to get an override for some basic beginner classes). :)

  5. You still have to take the SAT - ACT tests and place at a reasonable level.

1800 for good colleges and 2000 for great college

You may need to construct a transcript of your courses, but that may not be required by all schools.

It is expected you took up to Trig and also took math Chemistry or Science and Biology 1 and 2, Civics, English Grammar and Comp.

You will be tested by the school for Math and English Grammar.

  6. Well, only if you consider Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Berkeley, and Stanford good college...they all enroll homeschoolers.  Almost every university in the nation willingly accepts homeschoolers - many even actively court them.

You want to make sure that your transcript is in order and that you have met the entrance requirements of whatever universities you apply to; your test scores and transcripts will speak for themselves.  Many colleges also require an essay, which will tell them a lot about how you have prepared.

You have just as much chance as any classroom student - and more of a chance, with some colleges.  Just make sure your records are in order and that you've met the proper coursework requirements, and you should be good to go.

  7. I am repeating from another answer... but take a look at the article below...

    Colleges Coveting Home-Schooled Students

    SUBTITLE

Colleges aggressively competing for home-schoolers in quest for best students

You have an advantage as a homeschooled student not a disadvantage!

  8. All colleges accept homeschoolers. Pick a college you're interested in, sign onto their website, and find the requirements for homeschooled applicants. If you can't find them, call the school's admissions office and ask yourself.

I am going to the University of Florida which is the most selective school in my state. I've been homeschooled since 9th grade as well. Usually, the more selective schools (like UF) require that homeschoolers without accredited diplomas take the SAT II Subject Tests in Science, Math, Social Studies, and Foreign Language to prove their knowledge of these required-for-college subjects. They also want your regular SAT or ACT scores. Other less selective schools may only require that you submit your SAT/ACT scores and a transcript of the cources you took and your grades, as well as all the other applicaton information. NYU requres a GED if there is no accredited diploma, but this isn't a common trend. Most schools understand that homeschoolers recieve a quality education in an unconventional way, and many actively seek out and recruit homeschoolers because of the quality of their education, their self-motivation, independence, and maturity, not to mention their well-roundedness. It will certainly help you to get involved in as many extracurricular activities in your community (sports, clubs, classes, music or art lessons, etc) as you see fit as well as do some community services. This will look really good on your application and show that you are a well-rounded homeschooler. Good luck!

  9. You take the SAT or ACT tests.  You give them your transcripts or portfolio.  You apply just as if you were from a public school, private school or foreign country.
