yes, horses can swim.  and it's an excellent way for them to get exercise without too much stress on the joints.  When a horse has had an injury and is in rehab, they will often have it swim before doing more strenuous activities like trotting, cantering, jumping, etc.  Also swimming can be used as a stress reliever... when the horses meet at Saratoga in the summer, many of them utilize Saratoga's swimming pool facility... Saratoga is also called the Spa because of their facility where horses can swim through the refreshing waters of the Saratoga Springs.

Yes ,horses can swim. When I was a kid I used to ride my horse across a pond , and in the middle he couldn't touch bottom. He didn't freak out, he would just kick his legs and keep going. I think he enjoyed it.

Yes horses can swim, but they cannot turn very well whilst doing it!

I was always told if you want to swim a horse in the sea you should approach the water at an angle so that when you turn back to shore the horse only has to turn slightly.

Swimming is very beneficial to horses, particuarly those with minor injuries that may prevent them from working for a few days.

Most training centres have a public equine pool, and some trainers have installed private facilities for their own use.

Yes, they do, and do quite often. We racehorse trainers use the pool a lot for a way to exercise horses that may be hard on themselves on the track.

Yes,horses can swim.My Dad's work horse "Patrick" was an excellent swimmer.He was 18 hands and weighed 2000 pounds.

HORSIES AS YOU PUT IT ARE VERY GOOD SWIMMERS & A GREAT MANY OF THEM TRAIN IN A SWIMMING POOL ON A G0ROUND,THAT HEEPS THEM MOVING IN A CIRCLE,THIS IS GREAT TRAINING WITHOUT TAKING A CHANCE ON A LEG INJURY.

yes. most mamals that spend almost all of their life out of the water, can swim quite a distance, depending on what motivated the mamal to get into the water and which way the current is moving.  lol :)
