  1. ofcourse they can, I've held a few and believe me they let you know when they are mad mouth opened and a high pitched noise coming out. They "sip" l**k nectar from flowers. They also hunt very small insects like spiders. They even use spider web to make their nests.

  2. They drink nectar.  Their beak length is an evolutionary adaptation that enables them to stick their beak into long flowers in order to drink the nectar.

Hummingbirds can open their beaks.  Here's some chicks:

  3. Yes they do open their beaks...:)

  4. They use their long tongues to suck nectar from flowers, and yes they can open their beaks because they also eat tiny insects.

  5. Yes.

They eat food through their beaks.

  6. Of course they can open their beaks..their main diet is actually insects so they have to catch them in their beaks.  They also feed on nectar from flowers and that is why their beaks are so long..they are specially adapted for it.
