Ike looks dangerously close to Hannah. Can 1 hurricane fuse with another to form a bigger more menacing hurricane? Has it ever happened before, like the movie The Perfect Storm.

  1. There is a massively in-depth answer to this, but it's very interesting. What will happen is that Ike would have to catch up to Hanna, and once that happened they would dance. Basically, since they're both just big, violent low pressure systems they would move around each other. Hanna would drop to the southeast and Ike would be launched northwest. Ike would face more wind-shear and cooler waters than the Caribbean, causing him to weaken. Hanna would continue her path west and probably north too, eventually overtaking the weakened Ike. She would eat Ike essentially, gaining some of his energy and strengthening. In the sense of a Black Widow they may form a meg hurricane, but it may just seem like cannibalism. If that confused you then just go to wiki or youtube and search 'Fujiwara Effect.' That'll get you a whole page or a video of what I'm talking about.

  2. It can be, and the mega-storm would go north-west. But that's a bit unlikely, since they go at different directions (Ike is going West, Hanna to North-East).

  3. No. They look dangerously close but are VERY far. But it did happen once, I think.
