  1. I think you can up to a certain point.  You could definitely be an extra!  I think I heard that you have to be an SAG member if you have any lines in the movie, but I don't know whether that's entirely true.

  2. There are a lot of Non-Union productions out there, who are only looking to hire Non-SAG (or Non-AFTRA) talents.

If you serious about going into the Acting industry, you definately need to start build up your experiences and skills.

As suggested above, you can do some Extra jobs, just to get a feel of what it is like on a film/tv set. For Background/Extra jobs, you don't need a professional headshot or an actor resume. As long as you can be on time, and follow directions, then that should be good.

There are also student & indie projects that are open to actors of all backgrounds. Experiences or not, as long as you did well on the audition, they'd let you be part of the production.

I recently had a principle role in an indie short film. Among us actors, we all had acting experience and pretty good resume... but it was the Lead actress's FIRST time on a film set. The director picked her among all other skilled actresses at the audition, because she's very natural, and got something that the director is looking for in the role.

Eventually, you might want to start taking acting classes (at shcool or local acting studios), involved in theater workshops... and start building your acting resume.

    Good Luck!!!
