Can i Release my Garter Snake?

I captured this garter as a baby and raised it about 8 months would it be okay if i released it or would he die???? i figured i could keep him through the time were most baby garters die and now im not sure about relesing him would he be okay in the wild???? HE WAS NOT CAPTIVE BRED

  2. it should be fine. just make sure you feed it before setting it free.  since it was caught then its not the same as releasing a CB snake

  3. yes you can release it, lee, youre a fool. in most places its illegal to keep a native animal in captivity, wild or bred in captivity. and eight months would not have dulled it hunting instincts.

  4. you idiot why did you capture a snake they carry diseases anyways you cant return it now it could have stuff tat makes it dangerous in the wild

  5. It is illegal in any state to release any animal that has been kept as a pet for any length of time-even if only fo a couple of weeks.  Even if they came from the wild in the first place.  Call your local fish and wildlife office for suggestions on what you can do.

    Since he has been kept as a pet, he is not used to hunting for himself or keeping away from predators.  Instincts do dull considerably after a few weeks and he is unlikely able to survive in the wild.
