Can i Travel as tourist in the US but under a valid Q visa status?

Hi,

I am from France, but went to the US with an F1 visa for undergraduate studies, then I worked in the US under a Q visa. I came back to France in June, but my Q visa is still valid until August 31st (although i only have the status, NOT the actual visa on my passport since I did not return to France between my student visa and Q visa). In the mean time, I applied for an H1B visa that I still have no answer about.

Can i go back to the US as a tourist to visit friends before my Q visa expires and if i don't have an answer for my work visa?

Will I have problems with immigration once I fly into the US? I want to make sure before taking my ticket. If you know where I can find official information, please let me know! I would REALLY appreciate it!

French citizens can visit the USA for up to 90 days without a visa:

However, it might be best to contact the Embassy or the consulate that issued your visa to make certain there isn't a conflict if you enter the USA on the Visa Waiver Program before your visa expires.
