i am buying a Treo 700w just because it was a cheaper alternative off of ebay to have a qwerty keyboard. i just want to use it for making phone calls, and sending and recieving text messages. i do not want to surf the internet or check emails or any of that stuff. i am a part of a family plan with having a phone service and text messing service. but no data plan. can i use the treo to just call and text with out having the data plan, and further more can i turn off the internet stuff on the phone so it doesn't keep recieving and sending data. remember, i just want to have this phone as a regular phone with texting abilities.

  1. You don't need a data plan to use a Treo. BlackBerry, yes. But not Treo. You can't really turn the internet off but you might be able to hide it in the settings. My mother uses a 700wx and I believe you're running Windows OS 5, not 6, so the interface is a little different. I would search YouTube for a tutorial, if even possible. Otherwise, just don't worry about the internet. The worst case scenario is that you wind up using some marginal data time somehow and you get charged the per-megabyte rate (a whole $1.99 for about 50-100 web pages of browsing -- cheaper than a data plan for most average phone users).
