Question:

Can i add insulation in a air conditioned room?

i life in the caribbean and i have a 350 sf room wich uses a uge 18000 btu split ac!!!,,al 4 walls are normal brick and have a r-rating of around 1.2??

with a kwh price of 0.42$ this uses a lot of energy..

my question, can i add insulation like the materials they use to insulate heated homes?,, or other insulating materials,and would this save a lot of energy?

Yes it would help alot particularily in the attic and ceiling if possible.They usually use 4X8 ft. sheets of blue foam insulation 1 1/2 inch thick glued to the inside of the block wall.Then if needed you can attach drywall or sheetrock to the foam for painting and finishing the wall.For the best efficiency start with the ceiling if possible


  2. You can use a regular type of insulation such as fiberglass batting but it would not be the best for health reasons.

    I would recommend building in the wall with 2X4 studs and putting fiberglass insulation inside the new walls so that it is not exposed to open air. This would be better to health and energy efficiency issues.

    Also, If you don't mind the looks, you might want to try using a radiant barrier. There are some that claim good R values as well as the radiant barrier effects.
