  1. No, you need to be 18. I remember when I was 17, I wanted a debit card, but all I got was an ATM card with my mom's name on it.

  2. I would say LISTEN TO YOUR PARENTS. There is only one reason why your parents don't like ATM  cards and that is they learned the hard way. It is to easy to not keep track and over spend what you have on a debit account. If you use the account with no money it bounces like a check. This is the time of your life that you need to learn how to save and invest not how to spend and get in debt. Trust your parents I know sometimes they are a pain in the butt, however they have learned a thing or two in there old age. Remember until you are 18 your parents are responsible for everything and mistake you do. Don't add any more financial responsibilty to them. Wait till your 18 its only 2 years.

  3. No

  4. If the account and money is yours, then maybe you could find a bank that wouldn't ask.

Since 9/11 banks have been required to ask a lot more questions (called Know Your Customer) and your social security number and dependant status is required. If your parents are claiming you on their tax return, then they have the right to control your bank accounts because they are supporting you financially.

You are asking for a regular debit card, correct? Not a credit card. If you want a credit card and someone else supports you, then definitely not without their cosign.

  5. NO I SEE NOT OTHER OPTIONS.A FEW DAYS AGO I GOT THE CHASE HIGH SCHOOL CHECKING ACCOUNT FOR THOSE 13-17. IT IS LINKED TO A PARENTS ACCOUNT. MY PACKAGE COMES WITH A VISA CHECK CARD. THERE ARE NO SERVICE FEES. ALL THE RULES APPLY WITH THIS ACCOUNT EXCEPT IF YOU OVERDRAFT IT IS TAKEN FROM YOUR PARENTS. SO BE CAREFUL. IT CONVERTS TO A FREE CHECKING ACCOUNT WHEN YOU TURN 19.
