Can i apply for social security disability, even though i dont see a primary care doctor

i do see a counselor and i have been on a methadone clinic for 3 years, i have anxiety and i worked my whole life, but lately i am having more anxiety and i have less work

  1. Yes, you should be able to apply. The counselor could give you all the information you need and help you get social security disability

When you apply, the examiner working on your case reviews your medical sources listed on the application.  If you haven't been to the doctor in a while, they will set you up with an appointment to see a doctor in your area that Social Security has contracted with.  They pay for the appt...you just have to show up.  If you are having problems with anxiety, you will probably see a psychiatrist since Soc. Sec is unable to use records from a family doctor to get info regarding mental health probs...it has to be from a psychiatrist or psychologist (who obviously specialize in that area).  If you have physical probs as well that are contributing to your disability, they will send you to a regular doctor for a physical exam.  Good luck!
