Can i apply for u.s citizenship if my green card expired?

Question

well, i'm an minor, 17 years old.

I have no bad backgrounds about me. But my green card expired almost one year.

i wanted to apply instead of renewing my green card because i don't really want to renew it AGAIN in the next 10 years.

but then. can i still apply if im still a minor or when i turn 18? do i need my mom with me? well, if i did bring her, they might deny me because my mom has bad felony records...

help!

and how much is it to apply for citizenship? or do i need to renew then apply for citizenship?

My best advice is for you to phone the INS.  They have officers on duty and they can at least point you right direction.  I had to call them a bunch of times about my green card.  (I was going to be outside of the US for an extended period of time)  I eventually applied for citizenship and got it in about 8 months.  It would have been 6, but my fingerprints got mussed up.  I suspect you will have to renew your green card first, and then apply for citizenship.  It cost circa 250 bucks for citizenship (when I was doing it).  Aside from all the above, you need to move heaven and earth to get this done.   All the INS people I talked to were helpful.  In the end, all it came down to was if it was legal or not.  Apparently in my case it was.  Best of luck, make a few phone calls, suffer through the paperwork and become a US citizen.

you need to renew your green card. ALL permanent residents must have a valid green card with them at all times. you need to apply for one right now.

no, you cannot apply for citizenship with an expired green card.

no, you cannot apply for citizenship when you are a minor. you are not considered an adult and therefore cannot make legal decisions.
