cable broadband is not avalable in my area as i want internet and phone. However, i was told i need a bt line to be able to get sky, or virgin broadband and because it has not been used for over 12 months it needs to be reconnected to the exchange. I have a gongle to use for internet but i wanted sky. Does any one know of any way around the charge or another company who installs it for less. Thanks

  1. Yes you will have to pay, there is no way round it.

Unless you can get Virgin media

    http://www.broadbandchecker.co.uk/virgin...

Use the link to check if its available.  they charge just £30 installation ad you will have full access to Sky (except sky1)

  2. Sadly there's no way round it. BT own the network, despite all the other providers that offer domestic land line packages. So even if you went to Talk Talk etc you'll still have to pay a connection charge of around £100.

  3. If possible i would avoid bt internet, they are shite. They overcharge you for everything, their service is c**p and

the connection  for the internet just about beats paint drying

from wet.Their call centre for problems is based in india so you

get put on hold for an hour or more and when/if you do get

through ,you will get to speak to someone who has only just

grasped the basics of the english language.

  4. not to sure with residential lines but with business lines, if you enter a fixed term contract they will usually get install for free. if you only want sky for tv then you could ask a local satalitte installer if there are ways around it, cos to be honest you dont need a bt line for the sky box, it doesn't matter what type of line it is, only they have an agreement with bt so they get your business. have you tried the other cable supplier, i think its tiscali or even a 3g wireless adaptor.

  5. If you go to www.UtilitySaving.Biz the installation charge is much cheaper than BT but it is still a BT engineer.

  6. you cant. I had to do this, its not fair, but there is no way around it.

Unless you can get Virgin in your area? they can instal a cable and you get a phone line with them, but they only do select areas, so check with them first.

Whats doubly bad is that you have to sign up to BT for a whole year later.

But its normally if you havent had a phone line for 2 years or more, not just 12 months, check this out with BT -you could be saveing yourself money here.

  7. 12 months is rubbish! Connect a phone to your BT socket. If you can hear a dial-tone then there is no charge for reconnection.

Contact BT and ask for advice once you have tried the above.
