Okay,I am a 14 year old female, and I have loved watching fighting(martial arts)and boxing movies since i was smaller.I was afraid to become a boxer though because you get hit in the face etc.,but now I want to be one.But the thing is i'm kind of overweight, and I am short. But I do have big thighs,is that an advantage or not?I am 5' tall,143 lbs.Is that too short and too small/or too big?Thankx ^_^

  1. It's the size of the girl within, not the girl without that wins the fight. Your weight is fine, I think that would make you a middle weight in women's boxing circles. Your height would be okay. But be warned, some girls who box can be 5'6" and up in any division. But under a good coach, you will be taught how to "Get in under the guard" of bigger opponents.

To cite a male example, Mike Tyson though powerfully built wasn't overly tall. He also was taught how to get in and under the guard of taller more "rangey" opponents with longer arms. So there is a hope!

If you're afraid of facial contact, then maybe karate or tae kwon do (where they get to wear padding and armor) may be more to your liking. The competition is just as fierce, with more rules and less possibility of full-facial contact.

also, at 14, you probably aren't fully grown. You could easily add an inch or two (or more) yet over the next two years.

Thighs can add stability and power to your stances.

  2. first of all - usa has banned pro female boxing

    second - mma sucks

    3rd - im a badass boxer

4th - HUMBERTO SOTO!!!! is the greatest boxer ever

and last - oscar de la hoya will KO pacman!

  3. Big thighs may not be as important to boxing as to mui thai or kickboxing.  Being shorter is a bit disadvantage, but if you have big chn, and are able to tolerate 2 or 3 punches in order to get inside to your opponent, you still can be a fighter.

If you are fast, being 143 lbs would give you a lot of punchng power.  You never know how much your body height would affect you without physically participating the fight.  Therefore, go ahead to give yourself a trial.

Remember, to be a successful fighter, you need to have not just the body height, but  high level of pain tolerance, speed, chin, brain and aggressiveness.

  4. You have to have heart, you have to be mentally tough confident and ready to take not just one punch to the face, but hundreds in a match.  When you train do some sparring and get used to the feel of punches, run, swim(good for upper body, if upperbody is weak you'll see stars in seconds)run, not jog,and do pull ups. BUT! be tough!
