  1. all you need to enter a school to become an comp eng is a high school degree. i droped out of 10th got a GED and went to colege. now i am an computer engeering technitian.  comp eng dont build home computers- dell does. if you want to be  a comp eng because  you like games, then it is not for you. comp eng build embedded computers. think of control systems. i did it because i like robotics.

your computer skills will be good for college but you wont be building home computers. it is a lot of electronics and a lot of programing. i liked it. if you like working with home computers get a degree in computer science.

  2. Well, the first step is being Math nerdy. I struggled a lot initially, though I am a Chemical Engineer.

  3. What do you mean by computer engineer - do you mean programming/software engineering or electronics/hardware engineering?

Either one will require a lot more than just keyboarding skills (though I've found touch typing a massive time saver and would recommend a short course in that alone being worth your time ten-times over in the long run).

One of the nice things about software engineering and programming in particular is that you can learn it all without going to college (unlike a subject like chemistry where you need access to specialist chemicals and apparatus), though it does help.

Generally speaking, you want to be sitting with the equivalent skill-set and knowledge as you might get from a bachelors (with or without honours) + lots of time spent on your own learning specific languages/api's.

I'd suggest you start toying about with some programming languages and api's as soon as you can (java would be a reasonable one to start off with, it's well documented on the web by Sun and it has tonnes of convenience api's).  The more experience the better.
